Darren Throop is a Canadian businessperson in the entertainment industry. He is the CEO of Entertainment One,〔(【引用サイトリンク】publisher=entertainment one )〕 and has had a 20-year career building and managing entertainment companies. His career began in 1991 when he founded an independent chain of retail music stores. In 1999 he sold his business to CDPlus.com, a company he subsequently joined. In 2001, CDPlus.com was acquired by Records on Wheels and Throop assumed the role of CEO of the combined ownership entity – ROW Entertainment Income Fund (ROW). Throop diversified its operations through a series of acquisitions, including overseeing the purchase of Video One Canada,then Canada’s largest home entertainment company. In 2005, as CEO of ROW, Throop orchestrated the acquisition of Koch Records, North America’s largest indie label and a large U.S. distributor of home entertainment products. The combined company, now called Entertainment One, had a comprehensive U.S.-Canadian distribution network, and, after listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange, Throop began acquiring the rights for specialty content. In 2007, in order to fund expansion into independent feature film distribution and rights ownership, Throop orchestrated the movement of ROW London’s Alternative Investment Market in a $200 million IPO. Shortly after the listing Throop acquired leading content producers and distributors internationally. In 2010 Entertainment One was confirmed as a FTSE 250 entrant on the London Stock Exchange.
